Today, sitting in Athens, covering another harried news story, I learned of Omar Sharif's death and was filled with regret that I didn't just stop whatever I was doing and go to dinner with him. And soon, months went by and it seemed too late to call him. Omar Sharif, the Egyptian actor best known for playing Sherif Ali in Lawrence of Arabia (1962) and the title role in Doctor Zhivago (1965), was born Michel.
