![]() ![]() Also, I don't think we've haven't seen that 5-paneled shape, only 4-paneled ones. If Mutie is actually going to Rose, and nowhere else first, then the device isn't a 4th or a fifth wall but something else, that directly connects two universes, like the windows in Problem Sleuth that connect the real universe to the imaginary universe. It's clear that she's sending Mutie through it. From Hussie's Formspring:Ī 4th wall is an object that when broken or compromised, allows an author to interact directly with the audience or characters in the story.Ī 5th wall is a partition separating two omniscient narrators, which when broken, allows them to mess with each other. The only fifth wall so far has been between Doc Scratch and Hussie. Why is it a fifth wall? Usually they're called fenestrated walls or 4th walls. I cannot wait to see how Hussie will pull this off. Lalonde's 5-paneled window - all of this promises amazing complexity and some really exciting connections to come. Pretty amazing.ĮDIT: And all the unanswered questions: why is the interior of Jane's room purple, why does Jake's island have lusii, why is Jane's dreamself still alive, what happened to Jake's dead dreamself, what's up with R. And the fact that all these scenes appear in the clouds means that they're visible like that to characters in the story.Īll in all, I thought this flash was working on several levels showing us these future events, showing us the end of the intermission with the curtains, and all this stuff about the representation of the story. ![]() The physical text "PROSPIT" floating above the planet also seems to be connecting the representation of the story, the way we see it in the comic, with the way the characters see it. Right from the beginning, when we zoom out from the curtains, which normally enclose all the action, all the stuff in the flash is taking place outside the curtains which symbolize the structure of the comic, the stage on which it takes place. ![]() This flash seems to emphasize the whole meta thing that Hussie does, exposing the narration and putting it into the story.
